i’ve got an MA in librarianship, and so wearing my nerdy web 2.0 hat would like to give you regular readers (and those that have dropped by for the first time) an information literacy lesson about reading blogs.
don’t try and work out what RSS is an acronym for. google it if you really want to, but just understand it’s a great thing. once you get a good system going you don’t have to keep checking back at blogs you read to see if there’s anything new. the machine checks for you and tells you when there is something.
most of you seem to use macs (if i were a quantitative researcher i’d love to find out if there’s a correlation between veganism and mac use) and i do too, so the easiest thing to do is tell you that in safari or firefox (this works on a pc too) there’s a tool bar, and you can drag and drop the rss feed from the blog onto the tool bar. the rss feed often looks like this:
otherwise, sign up for a feed reader at yahoo, or as part of your google account, or on bloglines. i’d really recommend it.
and then sign up for all the other blogs, sites and places you like to keep up with.
