new developments in dining
it seems that in beijing when you find a good thing, you stick with it. even if it means catching a few buses and a subway and walking to get to it. so most meals i’ve eaten have been far far away from where i’ve been sleeping, which is fun and means lots of indulging in public transport.
but the other day we walked into a restaurant that is literally across the road from the apartment, and found good good food. gudfala kaikai even. it’s a baozi/bread dumpling restaurant, where you’re guaranteed to get some good salads as well. the soupy thing wasn’t so good, but it was an experiment in ordering off the unintelligble (for me) menu and seeing what turned up on the table.

food across the road
so, from left to right, this is a tofu strip salad, soup with meat balls, cucumber and chili salad, and a selection of vegetarian baozi: egg and shallot, egg and dill, maybe another flavour? and beautiful crockery.
