it’s oh so fusion style
living in a small, now independent country that has been invaded in the past by not one, but two other nations, leads to much reflection about my home country and the way history is prioritised and celebrated. which meant that on friday night a few of us stayed at home and cooked up a gourmet delight (as happens most nights in this house!), while masses of australians who flock here to live/develop land/do excellent aid work/holiday celebrated australia/invasion/survival day in other ways.
my contribution to the meal was a challenge to bbq everything i could find in the fridge. hence, the fusion of bok choy on the bbq. i also managed to bbq green beans, pumpkin, fish and many sausages, and burn quite a lot of things.
all the gas in my house comes from a small gas bottle, and so to use the bbq we have to disconnect the hotwater system and physically move the gas bottle to the bbq. which means remembering to move it back before you go to sleep. unfortunately, due to a series of (pleasant) distractions i forgot to return the gas, and woke up late on saturday to two grumpy housemates’ stories of cold showers…
