fresh fruit off the plane
so, hannah and i have managed to make friends with melba, a woman whose mum runs a lunch/dinner stall at the markets in town. we’ve eaten there lots and done lots of storian. and the other day i was walking home and ran into melba and her mother out walkabout too, snacking on fresh lychees. they shared them with me as we storianed more and realised we live closeup to each other (how much bislama can i get into one paragraph…) (did i mention fresh lychees… so nice!)
normally melba lives on another island, ambae. she’s been in vila for a while, i think helping out her mum and stuff. last week she went back to the island and won’t be back in vila till next year.
then yesterday at work i get a phone messgae saying melba had called and she had sent hannah and i a parcel and to call her back. i found out from hannah that the parcel was at the airport waiting for us, we just had to go get it. then today hannah spoke to melba’s mum, who had picked up the parcel for us already. this picture is what we got in the parcel. well worth this long story of nothingness and round and roundness!
a box of ambae mangoes and pineapples, fresh from melba’s garden. and the mangoes are soooooooo good. not stringy at all, and so juicy and sweet. i’ll keep you updated about what we get to send back to melba (there’s always something to give in return…)
